Why doesn't my desktop keyboard work?

I have a Dell Desktop and lately I've been having problems with the keyboard. The power is on, Num Lock is lit green, but I cannot type on the screen. I tried plugging in another keyboard, same problem. My speakers sometimes do not work, I restart when this occurs and that usually solves the problem. Thank you to all who help me out!
