How to ask him to the dance?

I want to ask this guy to the dance this friday..(rock star dance)....well i have a huge crush on him and my friends think i should ask him...me and this guy are good friends......i want to ask him to the dance but i am nervous and scared...also we are about 14 and is a note to childish?..if i am to ask i would probably do note cuase i would get to nervous for me to ask him face to face...or should i ask him my self and overcome my nervousness...or should i get a friend to ask him for me....and if i have to what do i say and all and when....ugg...i wish he would just ask me out himself.......also we have been hanging out with me alot lately and i think he likes me
