Should I get a mini laptop please help?

I am 19 year old college student on a VERY tight budget of around $300. My last laptop which I had for 4 years was a Sony Vaio and recently has a cracked screen which is spreading. I need a computer for the time being. I don't plan on getting my old laptop fixed as it may run up to $1,000 and with that money I could get a new laptop. I don't want to waste money on a laptop I don't really want out of desperation. Acer has these mini laptops on sale for $249 which I think is a great price for the meantime. My cles start next month And I need something to type papers and check email and surf the Internet during my cl breaks. So what do u guys think?
